The factors of the indoor environment are nowadays an important part of designing a building. One of the most important factors are thermal conditions which means properties in the environment that affect the heat transfer between the environment and the person. Thermal conditions, air quality and sound conditions all affect the indoor climate. There are many different methods for measuring and examining the conditions in order to obtain results from which the values of the indoor climate and the realization of the target levels can be determined.

The aim of this thesis was to find out the suitability of the radiation panel system for hospital conditions and the functionality of the system based on a survey, as well as temperature measurements, which were carried out in the hospital property. The measurements were performed in two batches using data loggers. The first measuring period took place during the winter heating season and the second during the summer cooling season. The obtained results were compared to the existing guideline values. Surveys were also carried out for the staff and patients concurrently with the measuring periods.

The response rate from the staff winter survey was 60%, and the summer response rate was 26%. 18 replies were received from the patient winter survey and 5 from the summer survey. From the results obtained from the temperature measurements, it was possible to state that the system works in accordance with the guideline values. From the data obtained from staff surveys, it was concluded that too low a room temperature and draught were the most common abnormalities experienced in thermal conditions. From the patient survey, it could be concluded that the feeling of draught is the most disturbing abnormality in thermal conditions. However, the low number of responses to the patient survey should be taken into account in the results.

Carrying out the inspection during different seasons was crucial to obtaining accurate results as outdoor air conditions in Finland change significantly during summer and winter. Based on the results of the temperature measurements, the investigated system can be considered a good choice for future projects.
