The purpose of this practice-based bachelor’s thesis was to structure the already existing breastfeeding guidance material in an electronic, presentable format for family coaching in a child health clinic to support breastfeeding guidance. The goal of the bachelor’s thesis is to support the continuity of breastfeeding guidance and to unify the breastfeeding guidance given by different public health nurses.

According to WHO's international recommendations breastfeeding secures nutrition for a child who is born healthy and with normal weight up to the age of six months with the exception of vitamin D supplements and possible medication. According to the researched data, breastfeeding can promote the health of infants and reduce mortality in both developing and developed countries. In Finland, early support for the onset of breastfeeding has been perceived as a special challenge, and for this reason the development and strengthening of breastfeeding guidance can be considered an important task for maternity clinics. The end result of the bachelor’s thesis was a PowerPoint presentation on the contents of breastfeeding guidance, which was delivered to the client electronically. The presentation responds to the wishes expressed by the client and serves their needs in the breastfeeding guidance of the family coaching in the child health clinic. The keywords in the formation of the theoretical framework were breastfeeding, breastfeeding recommendation, breastfeeding guidance, family coaching.
