The aim of this thesis was to examine the current situation of carriage of goods in the municipality of Lieto. The thesis clarifies the current costs and optimized executable transportation routes of the municipality. This study is a part of a larger study to identify the current status of transportation organized by the municipality of Lieto.

The research material was collected by interviewing the municipal workers. The work also presents a qualitative research method, the thesis represents a qualitative study. The theoretical part of the thesis deals with the procurement procedure generally.

The transport costs could not be reduced by optimizing routes, as the current tracks are currently the most cost-effective. Profitability can be increased by reducing the number of kilometers driven, with more economical driving habits, by calling for tenders from the fuel retailers and by raising transport prices.
