The aim of this thesis was to look into product data management and the systems associated with it and utilizing the information learned for establishing a new PDM system, which would eventually replace the old one. Intended benefits of the new system include standardizing working methods in the planning depart-ment as well as improving revision control and the user experience in general. The study was commissioned by Gebwell Oy.

The work was commenced by getting acquainted with standard and generally adopted good practices within PDM-systems and thoroughly familiarizing with the Autodesk Vault and Inventor software, which the new system was to be based on. A completely empty new PDM- system was established alongside the old one, to which the new system was built.

As a result of the thesis, a complete platform was created, and it could be started to plan the mass transfer of data from the old system to the new one. New standard compliant drawing templates and material and appearance libraries were also created during the work.
