Sharing economy is a new phenomenon and movement that favors common and communal consumption, use and production of goods. Sharing economy grows globally, changing the fundamental structures within society, economy and legislation. Sharing economy provides people with an opportunity to consume sustainably and re-sponsibly, without having to depart from welfare already achieved. The development of communication technol-ogy has been a requirement for the fast development of sharing economy, which has enabled the diversity for sharing economy business models.

The need for this thesis was discovered by the author himself. The main aim of this thesis was to create a new business idea to operate in the field of sharing economy and establish a business plan. The business plan is meant to assist in raising funds and starting a business in the future.

The measures to start a business in Finland were examined, as well as the available financial and economic sup-port. In addition, the limited liability company as a business entity was studied. Firstly, the culture of consump-tion and possession was familiarized with. Secondly, the options and possibilities that sharing economy can pro-vide to people’s consumption habits were studied. In addition, the possible positive and negative environmental impacts of sharing economy were examined. The theories studied in this thesis were utilized when creating the business plan and concepting the idea.

As a result of this thesis, it can be stated that sharing economy is a rapidly growing form in economy that has not only financial but also social and environmental effects. It is impossible to make a catch-all summary of the envi-ronmental effects of sharing economy on the account of the many indirect effects. However, its overall effects on the environment can be considered positive. As a result of writing this thesis, the idea became applicable, and by following the business plan, a new business can be started. The business idea is introduced at the end of this thesis.
