This thesis project was commissioned by Kuopion Energia Ltd, in which the enterprise resource planning system will be replaced in the near future. The aim of this study was to describe the six processes of Kuopion Energia: the accounts payable process, the accounts receivable process, the main ledger bookkeeping process, the reporting process, as well as electricity and district heating subscription delivery processes. The descriptions are intended to support Kuopion Energia in the future change. Financial management processes were further analyzed and development proposals were generated.

The research data was collected by interviews in the subscription processes. In the financial management processes discussion, own observation and previous documentation was used. The analysis section utilized the ideas of employees and the researcher's own opinions. Each process was successfully described. Analysis of the financial management processes showed a lot of unnecessary manual work. Hopefully the company will be able to eliminate this feature with the new ERP system. Processes are partly inefficient because of the current system.

Overall, the research was successful and the objectives set for the thesis were achieved. Further research could be a description of the financial management processes after changing the ERP system. Results of the projected study could be compared to the results of this thesis in order to examine and to attempt to substantiate whether the benefits planned beforehand will have been achieved.
