The idea for this thesis started from an internship at Turku airport in summer 2019. On the basis of the internship, an idea for a possible topic of the thesis was started to be thought about. After the considerations the topic became the following: The growth of passenger volume in Turku airport and the needed resources. The topic was approached by considering where the growth of passengers has come from and what is needed for it from the airport itself and the operating company. The aim of the study is to show how Turku airport has increased to number of passengers and based on these results also other Finavia airports can see if there would be something that they could utilize in their own strategy.

The research was implemented by using qualitative research method. For the research material there were interviewed three different tourism sector professionals all of whom have information about what happened at Turku airport. The interviewees were represented by Finavia and Visit Turku. The interviews were carried out in the form of individual thematic interviews in order to obtain the widest possible answers and that there would be room for intermediate comments.

Based on the research results, it can be stated that the increase of the numbers of passengers has started from the need of workers in the industrial sector of Turku and also the need for new routes to Turku airport. Turku airport and the possessive company has been needed a lot of different resources, which include wealth, time, partners, effective strategies and good employees.

As a conclusion, the increase numbers of passengers at the airport requires many different resources. The main are marketing, good relations and continuity. In addition of these the hard work both behind the scenes and at the airport itself has brought that airport where they are today. The result of this work is now visible as a positive result in increase of passengers.
