The purpose of this thesis was to examine motor driven rollers and related subareas in order to select the correct configuration according to specified requirements.

This thesis examined both the benefits and challenges of roller motors in automation systems. The object to be transported and how its physical characteristics should be taken into consideration when designing the conveyor system were also considered. The usage of roller motors is on the rise and a few uses are presented in this thesis. More specifically, this thesis focused on the circuit boards and their features and connectivity. Power distribution at high currents poses challenges to the electrification of the conveyor system.

This thesis can be used as a material for a subsequent selection tool that defines motor driven rollers for each application. This thesis also opens up new perspectives about motor driven rollers for automation system designers in Cimcorp Oy.
