The diploma thesis was done for building a total management system for Masterkilpi Oy. The main tasks were to develop an upcoming management system to fulfill requirements of the traffic sign standard and to improve total organization of Masterkilpi by utilizing the ISO 9001 -standard. The total management system was intended to streamline operations, facilitate total management and develop operations management.

The procedures of Masterkilpi were evaluated based on the experiences of employees and my own observations. In this thesis there were three objectives: First, the requirements set by the company for the total management system. Secondly, the requirements set by the SFS-EN 12899-1 -traffic sign standard and ISO 9001 -standard for the company. The last, to develop the operations management both in the short and long term. The thesis was based on standards.

A total management system which fulfilled the requirements of SFS-EN 12899-1 -traffic sign standard and ISO 9001 -standard was created for the company. By utilizing the system, a uniform frame for the total management was developed. In addition, standardized processes were developed for the company. The processes and responsibilities were divided into smaller entities. The total quality management was enhanced through setting goals, creating indicators and controlling the processes. In conclusion, the progression of a company is dependent on participation of the employees and of mutual goals.
