Postoperative pain management after mastectomy

This study aims to synthesize current evidence on pain management after mastectomy, with a primary focus on thoroughly exploring the strategies employed for postoperative pain management. The research addresses two main questions: firstly, an examination of the diverse strategies utilized in pain management after mastectomy; and secondly, the identification and analysis of barriers that hinder effective pain management in mastectomy patients. The method employed in this study is a qualitative systematic literature review where data were carefully obtained and analyzed. Within the conceptual framework of the study, Katherine Kolcaba's theory of Comfort serves as the guiding theoretical lens, providing a structured and comprehensive basis for the investigation. The findings of this study highlight two main themes: physiological and non-physiological strategies in pain management after mastectomy, as well as barriers to nursing care in pain management. Stressing the importance of using a variety of methods to manage pain, the study emphasizes the need to address these challenges to improve patient care.
