Examensarbete: För att bilda en teoretisk grund om kommunikationen med ungdomar inom en vårdkontext, utförs en litteraturstudie som svarar på syftet hur kommunikationen mellan vårdare och ung vårdtagare ser ut. I litteraturstudien besvaras frågeställningarna hur kommunikationen ser ut samt eventuella utmaningar som kan finnas i kommunikationen med ungdomen.

Metoden är systematisk litteraturstudie, och materialet i litteraturstudien är vetenskapliga artiklar med kvalitativ forskningsansats. Litteratursökningen utförs i databaserna MEDLINE och CINAHL. Dataanalysen är en induktiv, kvalitativ innehållsanalys, och den resulterar i bildandet av fem kategorier. Som teoretisk referensram fungerar Katie Erikssons vårdvetenskapliga ontologi, samt Lennart Fredrikssons teori ’Det vårdande samtalet’.

I litteraturstudiens resultat framkommer flertalet praktiska råd för vad som är viktigt och som vårdaren behöver beakta i kommunikationen med ungdomen, och belägg för användning av visuella metoder som verktyg i kommunikationen. Information, delaktighet och beslut framkommer som en del av kommunikationen med ungdomen inom vården. Vidare beskrivs också kommunikationen som äger rum via sociala medier och sms, samt olika utmaningar som kan uppstå i kommunikationen med ungdomen.

Utvecklingsarbete: Med syftet att sprida kunskap och starta en reflektionsprocess kring ämnet kommunikation med ungdomar inom vården, utformas en produkt i form av ett informationsblad riktat till vårdare som nu eller i framtiden kommer möta på ungdomar i sitt vårdarbete. Målsättningen med utvecklingsarbetet är att i det långa loppet understöda ett gott bemötande av ungdomar inom vården.

Innehållet i informationsbladet baserar sig på resultatet från litteraturstudien i examensarbetet av Österberg (2020), samt en kompletterande artikelsökning som utförs enligt samma datainsamlingsmetod som i litteraturstudien, med endast mindre undantag i urvalskriterierna. Den grafiska utformningen av informationsbladet baseras på en bok av Lars Melin (2011). Arbetet resulterar i ett informationsblad som kommer distribueras till målgruppen genom skribentens kontakt till hälso- och sjukvården och Yrkeshögskolan Novia.

Bachelor's thesis: In order to create a theoretical foundation on the topic ‘communication with adolescents in a healthcare context’, the purpose of describing this communication is fulfilled by a literature review. By doing the literature review, the research questions ‘What does the communication between healthcare personnel and the adolescent look like?’ and ‘What challenges may appear in this communication?’ are answered.

The method used is systematic literature review, and the material is scientific articles with a qualitative scientific approach. Data collection is done in databases MEDLINE and CINAHL. The analysis of the data is performed through an inductive qualitative content analysis, and it results in the formation of five categories. The ontology created by Katie Eriksson, and the theory ‘Det vårdande samtalet’ created by Lennart Fredriksson, form the theoretical framework.

The literature review results in some practical advice, covering what’s important in the communication with the adolescent, and what the healthcare personnel should keep in mind when communicating with adolescents, as well as evidence for using visual methods as a tool in communication with adolescents. Information, participation and decision-making play a role in communication with adolescents in a healthcare context. Furthermore, communication through social media and texting, along with challenges in the communication with adolescents, is described.

Development project: With the purpose of propagating knowledge and starting a reflectional process on the subject communication with youth in healthcare, a product in form of a fact sheet is made. The target audience of the fact sheet is healthcare personnel and students, who currently, or in the future will, meet youth in their occupation in healthcare. The goal in the long run is to promote good encounters between youth and healthcare personnel, through this development project.

The contents of the fact sheet are based on the results of the literature review in the bachelor’s thesis made by Österberg (2020), and a complementary data collection, which is done with the same method of data collection as in the literature review, with a small exception in the selection criteria. The graphic presentation of the fact sheet is based on a book by Lars Melin (2011). The project results in a fact sheet that will be distributed to the target audience through the author’s contact to healthcare and Novia University of Applied Sciences.
