"Fast di väger 100 kilo så kan di noo vila ha emla-plåster, o vissa säge “nää du får noo picka”" En kvalitativ studie om barncenterad bemötande vid venpunktion av barnpatienter

The purpose of this study is to gain a deeper knowledge and understanding of how one as a nurse can treat the paediatric patient in a child-centric way at vein puncture. The purpose of the study is also to find out nurses' knowledge of, as well as attitudes towards nonpharmacological pain relief methods in vein puncture of paediatric patients.

The study was performed with semi structured interviews as a collection method and analyzed by qualitative content analysis. The informants in the study consisted of four nurses who worked in a children's ward. All the informants had long work experiences. As a theoretical framework Hildegrad E. Peplaus (1952) theory of interpersonal relationships was used.

The result showed that the child-centric treat of paediatric patients in vein puncture is based on adequate information, careful preparation, as well as taking into account the child's needs. The result also suggests that today's nurses appear to have knowledge of non-pharmacological pain relief methods that can be used in vein puncture of paediatric patients, as well as that nurses consider these necessary.
