Mitt examensarbete ”Gatekeepers” är ett utställningsprojekt från idé till färdig utställning. I examensarbetet undersöker jag de landskap där gamla militära flygplan har ställts upp på fundament. Varför finns flygplanen där? Vad symboliserar dessa flygplan och vilken historiebeskrivning står de för?

Är det en berättelse om ett neutralt och alliansfritt land under det kalla kriget? Eller handlar det om en mörk dystopi i det kalla krigets skugga, med ett hemligt utvecklingsprogram av kärnvapen och frågor kring sjukdom och miljöförstörelse?

Jag har genom examensarbetet utvecklat min egen kreativa process. Jag har haft en önskan att utföra ett fotografiskt arbete baserat på inspiration från fotografer inom ”New Topographics” samt det politiskt inriktade fotografiet från rörelsen ”New Documentary”. Mina inspirationskällor har sin grund i 1970-talets Nordamerika. Inspirationskällorna leder mig till såväl arbetsprocesser som ett fotografiskt uttryck.

Examensarbetet ”Gatekeepers” har genomförts bland annat med textstudier, inhämtande av fotografiska inspirationskällor, fältarbete med fotografering och produktion av en fotografisk utställning.

Utställningen ”Gatekeepers” är en fotografisk berättelse, med en politisk grund, vilken har som syfte att skapa en diskussion och få betraktaren att söka mer information

Utställningspubliken ska inte behöva ta del av en mängd textbaserad information i samband med utställningsbesöket. Min avsikt är att bilderna ska skapa ett intresse för att utställningspublik ska söka efter information som underlag för en diskussion kring Sverige och det kalla kriget.

My Bachelor’s thesis ”Gatekeepers” is an exhibition project, from idea to a finished exhibition. In the thesis, I examine the landscapes where old military aircraft have been mounted on foundations. Why are they there? What do these aircraft symbolize and what historical description do they stand for?

Is it a story of a neutral and non-aligned country during the Cold War? Or is it a dark dystopia in the shadow of the Cold War, with a secret nuclear weapons development program and questions about disease and environmental destruction?

Through the degree project, I have developed my own creative process. I have had a desire to perform a photographic work based on inspiration from photographers in ”New Topographics” and the politically oriented photography which was included in the movement ”New Documentary”. My sources of inspiration are rooted in North America and the 1970s. The sources of inspiration have led to both my work processes and photographic expression.

The degree project ”Gatekeepers” has been carried out with, among other things, text studies, obtaining photographic sources of inspiration, fieldwork with photography and production of a photographic exhibition.

The exhibition ”Gatekeepers” is a photographic story, with a political basis, which aims to create a discussion and inspire the viewer to seek more information

The audience should not have to read a lot of text-based information in connection with the exhibition visit. My intention is that the images will create an interest for the audience to search for information, and use as a basis for a discussion about Sweden and the Cold War.
