Ammattilaisten asenteet asiakkaiden seksuaaliseen hyvinvointiin ja seksin apuvälineisiin : Apuvälineteknikoille ja toimintaterapeuteille suunnattu kysely

The goal of this study was to survey the attitudes towards assistive device of sex among Occupational Therapists and Prosthetics and Orthotics technicians. Purpose of this study was to raise awareness among aforesaid professionals about client’s sexual health and sexual rights of the physically challenged.

The data were collected by sending a questionnaire to Prosthetics and Orthotics technicians and Occupation Therapists emailing companies that produce assistive devices and via  Facebook-groups. We used online software to collect and to analyze the results. We also conducted three expert interwievs to investigate relevant phenomena related to the subject. Our thesis did not have any subscribers or partners. The subject came from our own interest, topicality and our conception of relevance of the subject.

We got 63 results to analyse. 21 of those results was from Prosthetics and Orthotics technicians and 42 of them was from Occupational Therapists. Sampling was comprehensive enough for our thesis but too narrow for  nationwide or for the interest generated by the questionnaire. The results mainly corresponted to our expectations.

Based on the results, it can be concluded that most of respondents had experienced that their knowledge and skills are inadequated and that makes confronting clients issues about sexual health very challenging for them. Professionals  basic education did not give them enough knowledge and tools. Most of Occupational Therapists felt like taking into account clients sexual well-being is part of their job unlike most of Prosthetics and Orthotics experienced that clients sexual well-being is not part of their job. Half ot the both groups felt like they need and want more additional studying but only few employers offers additional studies to employees. Half of respondents felt like their work community finds clients sexual well-being really important part of comprehensive well-being and they also felt like they will be supported enough if needed what comes to confronting challenges with clients and issues about their sexual well-being.
