The purpose of this functional Bachelor´s thesis was to produce an educational video on an infant´s reflexes and how to test them. The video was made for Laure a University of Applied Sciences and the target group was public health nursing students. The aim of the educational video was to provide information about infants’ reflexes and how and when to test them to future public health nurses. A further purpose was to advise on how to manage if the reflexes are not present and why sometimes the reflexes do not come out clearly.

The functional Bachelor´s thesis includes a written theoretical part and an educational video. The educational video is downloaded to Laurea’s YouTube channel so it can be used in distance and contact teaching.

The theoretical part of the thesis consists of the themes: public health nursing studies and work, distance studies, educational video, infants’ neurological examinations and testing reflexes. The educational video includes the most important infants’ reflexes which are tested at a child health clinic. The video was prepared on the basis of the theoretical framework. Feedback on the final educational video was requested from the second-year public health nursing students. The implementation of the thesis aims was assessed based on the feedback. The public health nursing students found that the video is clear, useful and they experience that they would learn to test an infant’s reflexes after watching the video.

The development proposals were the English version of the educational video, the educational video about how to perform all neurological and motor tests to infants in a child health clinic and how in the future to produce educational videos in collaboration with media students.
