Initiation Process at K-citymarket Iso Omena´s Checkout Department

The aim of this thesis is to survey how new employees and trainers have experienced the initiation in K-citymarket Iso Omena´s cashdesk department. The purpose of the survey was to find out if there were some phases which demand improvement. The survey was limited to three actual initiation days.

The theoretical section of the thesis is based on the literature on learning, organisational learning, initiation and work guidance.

The survey was executed as a quantitative survey and the questionnaire included multiple choices and open questions. New employees and trainers had different questionnaires. The results were processed with the Excel spreadsheet program.

The result of the survey showed that the new employees were quite satisfied with the whole initiation process. The results of the survey, however, showed that there were some parts of the initiation that need to be developed. These points included the necessity of giving the same amount of time for initiation for every new employee, to discuss safety matters and to develop the trainers’ skills in their roles.

Almost all the trainers thought that the initiation was important and they liked to work as trainers. The survey shows that the trainers would like to have more time for the initiation process, more training for their roles and more support for the trainer’s task from their superiors.
