Musiikin hyödyntäminen 18–29-vuotiaiden mielenterveyskuntoutuksessa : Kuvaileva kirjallisuuskatsaus

Mental health problems have been found to be one of the most common health problems with young adults. According to research, about a quarter of young people suffer from mental health problems. The earlier the problems are intervened in, the smaller are the consequences. Music is present in people's everyday lives and it cannot be avoided. From the point of view of rehabilitation, the use of music and other creative methods are becoming more common in promoting the mental health of young adults. The purpose of the thesis was to promote the use of music in the mental health rehabilitation of those between 18 and 29 years of age. The research questions of the thesis were "How does music promote the mental health of 18-29-year-olds?" and “What kind of mu-sic methods have been used in the mental health rehabilitation of 18-29-year-olds?”. The answers were sought by using a descriptive literature review. The assignor of the work was the Music Against Drugs association. The aim was that the assignor would be able to utilize the results of the thesis in the development and design of the work that promotes mental health. A descriptive literature review was used as the research method in the thesis, and existing material was collected for it. The literature review consisted of the research problem, the formation of research questions, compilation of theoretical material, the selection of studies and the analysis and verification of the results. Research on the use of music in mental health rehabilitation was found to be scarce, and several studies stated the need for further research. As a method, music is relatively new in mental health rehabilitation. Instead, more research was found on music therapy and the benefits of music in the rehabilitation of brain damage
