Work counselling is a service provided to job seekers who require special assistance in securing employment. Service is provided by organizations such as the commissioner of this thesis. The aim of this thesis was to explore how work counselling at Company X could be developed and improved from the client’s perspective. Additionally, the goal was to identify the strengths of the guidance work carried out to enhance the client’s capabilities related to employment and job search in order to increase their independent functional capacity. The data were gathered through a questionnaire and semi-structured interviews. Content analysis was used to analyze the data. The survey contained multiple-choice questions as well as one open question. The open responses of the survey data covered the years 2021 to 2024. In addition to extensive content analysis, the purpose of the semi-structured interviews was to deepen the understanding and experiences of the quality of work coaching from the customer's perspective, providing insights for potential future development of the service. The results indicate that the significance of guidance, especially in the beginning of the coaching process, is crucial. The importance of good communication, emotional support, and encouragement was emphasized. Clients valued the feeling of being heard and acknowledged. A trusting and open relationship, with clear roles and responsibilities for both parties, facilitates progress in the process. Based on the results obtained, development suggestions were made for the commissioner to be utilized in enhancing the work coaching services. Furthermore, the findings can be applied more broadly in the development of labour market services.
