Thesis aimed to study the methods of production planning in those greenhouse companies, which produce potted plants for the spring and early summer market. Second objective was to bring to their knowledge the usual production planning methods used in industrial production. Third aim was to examine the usefulness of an Excel based bill-of-materials calculation form, which was created to help calculate the costs and consumptions while planning potted plant production. Background information was formed from the information regarding greenhouse companies timetable of production planning, from its own special features with a view to material handling as well. Second part of information base was to bring out and explain the most commonly used methods and tools in industrial production planning. The study detail of bill-of-materials function and its Excel calculation base was considered subjectively as new, interesting and useful way to check, re-evaluate and calculate costs and consumptions, especially with the inventory management section. Main challenge for the Excel forms features was the changed timetable of greenhouse suppliers, which was inconsistent with the timetable of greenhouse companies. Timetable problems also cutted out the usefulnes of the simulating feature of the Excel calculation form.
