The aim of the study was to find out whether the criminalization of drug use affects users' identity and seeking help. The aim of this study is to generate additional information for the current social debate on the criminality of drug use.

A semi-structured thematic interview was used as the data collection method and the data was analyzed using content analysis. The interviews were transcribed, and then the material was searched for common factors and the content was divided into lower and upper categories.

The participants emphasized and hoped for a different approach from the authorities and a more consistent offer of help instead of stigmatization. All the interviewees had experienced being excluded from society, being labeling as a criminal and feeling inferior in relation to other people, as well as being stigmatized by the environment.
