Tekniikkaleikki : Soittotekniikkaa kehittäviä improvisointiharjoituksia pikkupianisteille

The purpose of this thesis was to create improvisation exercises that would developthepiano playing technique. In the thesis work there are a total of eight exercises and they were aimed at elementary piano students between the ages 5 and 10. The pictures for the exercises were drawn by Veera Tikkanen. To support the development of the exercises, the author familiarized herself with the development, learning and motor skills of children. Works related to playing technique and improvisation were also used as a knowledge base. The work was based on an increased discussion of improvisation as well as a new appreciation and position of improvisation in the foundations of the curriculum for an extensive curriculum in basic art education.

The exercises and background work were implemented simultaneously, and they influenced each other’s progress. During the exercises it was sometimes noticed that more information was needed on a topic, and in the background worknew information appeared at times and the exercises had to be modified.

The purpose of improvisation exercises is to support the child's holistic learning and development in terms of making music. In addition, exercises are intended to develop the basics ofthepiano playing technique in particular. The exercises are aimed forpiano teachers and their elementary students, for example at music colleges and civic colleges. The exercises and background work sought to maintain practicality and closeness toreallife.
