Detta examensarbete består av en studie av efterfrågan på flygfrakt från Finland till Asien. Syftet med arbetet är att redogöra för vilka faktorer som har påverkat och påverkar flygfraktstrafiken från Finland till Asien. Arbetet börjar med att kort berätta luftfartens och flygfraktens historia, följt av utbuds- och efterfrågeteori som tillämpas på flygfrakten och fortsätter sedan med en presentation av tre destinationsländer i Asien; Kina, Japan och Thailand, till vilka man från Finland har bedrivit reguljär flygtrafik sedan länge. Statistik om dessa länders ekonomiska utveckling i form av BNP samt statistik om flygfraktsmängderna till länderna analyseras för att hitta eventuella korrelationer. Därefter följer en empirisk del där representanter för ett antal speditörer med flygfraktsverksamhet har intervjuats för att få en uppfattning om hur flygfrakten från Finland till Asien i praktiken ser ut från en speditörs perspektiv. Den statistiska och empiriska informationen kombineras sedan i analysdelen. Resultatet ger en bild av en mångfacetterad bransch som påverkas av en rad faktorer; bland andra nationalekonomi, industriell utveckling, konsumenters köpkraft, politik och geografi.

This final thesis consists of a study of the demand for airfreight from Finland to Asia. The purpose of this thesis is to show which factors have affected and affect the airfreight from Finland to Asia. The thesis begins with a short presentation of the history of aviation and airfreight, followed by supply- and demand theory which is applied to the airfreight, and then continues with a presentation of three destinations in Asia; China, Japan and Thailand, to which regular air-traffic from Finland has been flown since a long time. Statistics of the economic development of these countries in the form of GDP and statistics of airfreight flown to these countries are analyzed to discover potential correlations. This is followed by an empirical section, for which a number of representatives of freight forwarders offering airfreight have been interviewed to get an idea of what the airfreight from Finland to Asia looks like from the perspective of a freight forwarder. The statistical and empirical information is then combined. The result provides a picture of a multifaceted business which is affected by a number of factors including national economy, industrial development, the buying power of consumers, politics and geography.
