Development and preliminary design for pneumatic material handling test equipment

The subject of this master’s thesis is to get acquainted with the technologies and components of pneumatic material handling and create a preliminary design for a pneumatic conveying testing unit, which could be utilized in designing and developing commercial equipment for pneumatic conveying. The theoretical section of this thesis is a combination of information gathered from academic literature resources and gained practical knowledge from the specialists representing the target company.

This thesis is meant to be utilized for introducing the principals of pneumatic conveying to the personnel working for the target company, and primarily as a preliminary design guidance in the becoming design, development, and implementation process of a pneumatic conveying test unit. More detailed and defined further studies, not widely recognized in the field of academic research can be done based on this thesis.

The result of this thesis is a preliminary design material package, which will hand out guidelines for initiating the actual design of the test unit. The material package defines the features, types, sizes, and quantities of the components to be used in the equipment, and the variables to be measured and observed in the tests.
