The aim of our research was to develop a model for community based video art workshop as a part of the ArctiChildren InNet project. The project's main goal is to develop different multimodal ways to support the psychosocial wellbeing of children and youth in the Barents region. Also new e-health approaches are being developed in the project through the ArctiChildren website. In our research we focus especially on the questions of local identity and social interaction as part of wellbeing. We have used action research as an approach to our research. The theoretical part is based on the different theories of psychosocial wellbeing, art and wellbeing, video art, community art and socio-cultural animation. The workshop was organized in Ivalo secondary school with ten eight graders from a compulsory art course. As a part of the co-operation project of many professional fields, our research brings information of how art can support wellbeing, especially how video can be used as a tool to support the psychosocial wellbeing. In the future, this model can be used also in other schools participating in the ArctiChildren project. Video is a multimodal tool that can be used for communicating not only with images but also with movement, sound and facial expressions. That is why it is also a good tool for dealing with identity because it shows well the person’s overall appearance. Making the video art work in a group also strengthens the social interaction between the group members.
