This thesis studied the financial situation in a small to medium sized firm in real estate business by using key figure analysis and compared profitability in the three areas of business by analysing the case company’s profit margin. The objective was to give the owner of the company as comprehensive a picture as possible about the financial position of the company and about the profitability of the three areas of business. The theoretical study of the thesis was compiled from different sources using books, electronic publications and interviews. The empiric part of this thesis was created by using information in the ethical study. The key figures representing the financial state of the company were constructed by using corrected profit and loss statements and balance sheets. The key figures of the case company’s specific branch were acquired through profit margin analysis. Key figure analysis gives more usable information than the financial statement about the financial state of the company. The conclusion was that the financial situation of the case company is good in its entity. The most profit-making area of the company revealed to be apartment rental. Janitorial services were the most unproductive area of operations.
