The purpose of this thesis was to design a machine that will improve the brazing process in Kone-Kunttila Ltd. The goal was a simpler and faster brazing process which is easier to introduce to new workers and manufactures products of uniform quality. The machine should have a plan to give it a declaration of conformity. Liquefied petroleum gas should be used as fuel for brazing flames.

The products hang from a machine that resembles a carousel. A 0.37kW motor acts as a power supply. The hanging products travel through a brazing flame in a predetermined time. This time has to be precise in order to form quality joining. A frequency converter is used in conjunction with a control unit to set the rotation time of the products. A risk analysis for the declaration of conformity was completed by the standard SFS-EN ISO 12100. Securing the work conditions are done by placing gas sensors for both carbon monoxide and propane. Air circulation was realized with a Plymovent "Smart One" machine.

The machine was a success. The speed of brazing has nearly doubled and the process is much easier to teach and learn. There are fewer possibilities for mistakes and the rejection rate is also down to almost a fifth. This change is not solely thanks to the brazing unit, because other measures were also taken to improve the ability to manufacture products of uniform quality. Plans for the declaration of conformity have been made and are being implemented. However, every step needed to attaching the CE-mark is not ready yet. Once all steps in the risk analysis have been completed, the CE-mark can be attached.
