The purpose of this thesis is to make a survey regarding the structural and moisture performance condition of a log house built in 1939. The house is situated in city of Tampere, in Nekala town district. The house is in its original condition.

The thesis comprises an introductory part of research methods and an appendix part of actual structural and moisture performance condition survey, as well as suggestions for restoration. The condition survey part examines standard research methods used in condition surveys of small houses. The aim of the survey was to determine the structural condition and moisture performance of the house. The condition survey provided a baseline for restoration suggestions, as well as the structural organisation and applied contents for this thesis.

Destructive material tests and various measuring devices and equipment were used in order to find out the condition of the structures and their functional performance. The survey revealed the current condition of the house. Based on this thesis, the client was given the structural and moisture performance report with related restoration suggestions, including repair plans for walls in direct ground contact. The report was well approved by the client and rewarded with a glass of refined, well-aged Scotch for a job well done.
