The aim of this thesis was to create a production procedure for a fast delivery rock crusher. The thesis was commissioned by Metso Finland Ltd. The purpose of the new procedure was to achieve an ability to deliver defined rock crusher models in a significantly shorter time than earlier. This thesis was done using a quantitative research method. By a few measures, including pre-production and postponement, the total lead time was decreased by over 90 %.
The concept was defined by the targets set by the client. Based on the concept, a production procedure was created. The concept combines fast delivery and customization as applicable.
The thesis went through an ordinary and a new rock crusher production procedure chronologically. The ordinary concept and the new one can be used side-by-side. The new concept does not overturn the ordinary one. The concepts differ from each other in terms of the order of stages of work.
A concept piloting with positive results was also carried out in the thesis. Based on the piloting, the concept was iterated to achieve a better certainty of a fast delivery. Also the actual prerequisites of an implementation were assessed based on the piloting.
In the end of the thesis, there is an examination about the concept’s start-up costs and the suitability of the concept for other crusher models.
