Opinnäytetyö on jatkoa kesällä 2011 alkaneelle yhteistyölle A & G Mining Oy:n kanssa, jolloin suuniteltiin ja valmistettiin lintuaiheinen naisten sormus, Pulmuset. Opinnäytetyön tavoite on luoda uudenlainen, rohkeasti erilainen miehille suunnattu sormus hopeasta, käyttäen suomalaisia jalokiviä. Sormus valmistetaan käsityönä perinteisiä jalometallimuotoilun työstömenetelmiä käyttäen. Opinnäytetyö koostuu kahdesta osuudesta, joista ensimmäisenä tiedonhaku. Siinä kerrotaan toimeksiantajan historiasta ja tutustutaan suomalaisiin jalokiviin, sekä kerätään tietoa miehille suunnattujen, kivellisten sormusten tarjonnasta. Siinä suoritetaan myös pienimuotoinen kysely määriteltyyn potentiaaliseen asiakasryhmään sopiville henkilöille. Tiedonhakuvaihe auttaa selvittämään tarpeen työn tekemiselle ja toimii siivittäjänä toiselle osuudelle, eli suunnittelulle ja korun valmistamiselle. Ideoinnin ja luonnostelun tueksi luotiin tunnelma-, muotokieli- ja elämäntapataulut. Sormuksen aihe –linnut – tuli suoraan edellisestä projektista. Luonnostelun jälkeen tulee valmistusprosessin kuvaus, jonka lopputuloksena syntyi sormus, nimeltään Koto. Lopussa on palaute toimeksiantajalta, sekä tekijän itsensä kommentit siitä, miten hyvin tehtävänannossa onnistuttiin.

This thesis is a continuation of the cooperation with A & G Mining Ltd that began in the summer of 2011 when a bird-themed ring for women was designed and manufactured. The aim of the project was to create a new kind of boldly different ring for men using sterling silver and Finnish gemstones. The ring was made as handcraft using original working methods in precious metals. The thesis consists of two sections. The first part is the information retrieval part. It tells the history of the client and includes an introduction to Finnish gemstones. It also includes a benchmarking of the rings with gemstones aimed at men. A small-scale survey was carried out for a defined group of potential customers. The information retrieval phase helped to confirm that there is a demand for this thesis and it works as a portal to the second part, namely the design and manufacture of the jewelry. To support brainstorming and sketching mood, visual theme and lifestyle boards were created. The bird theme came straight from the previous project. After sketching there is a description of the manufacturing process and the end result – the ring called Koto. At the end of the thesis there is the feedback from the client and the designer’s comments on how well the ring succeeded.
