The purpose of the thesis was to examine the logistics of logistically difficult construction sites and to consider some improvements for the control of logistics. The project was meant to be a guide and observation material for logistically difficult construction sites in the future. The goal was also provoke thoughts about logistics in construction sites. The work was commissioned by Skanska Construction Ltd.

The thesis was confined to include moving materials and information transfer only. Capital movements were ignored in this work. The work began by exploring the construction site logistics in practice when working as a trainee in site management at a construction site in summer 2011. For this thesis information was collected and observations about logistics of construction site were made, as well as problems associated with it. Development suggestions for the construction sites logistics were considered according to the observation and information collected while working on the construction site. The work was intended for managers to be an assistance and guidance material so it had to be practical. The examples and case stories presented in the thesis were directly based on work at the construction site.

The result of the work was a general guide for the construction site logistics and its management. The material is suitable for construction site managers and purchasing departments as an observation material and a support for the company's own logistics plans and guides. The material also include general guidance for the area plan, the initial meeting, the approach plan and the plan for the logistics of a construction site. It also includes instructions and methods for the control of the logistics of construction sites.
