The purpose of this thesis was to design and create a visual look for Kawacon 2014 – event which is a convention mainly concentrating on Japanese popular culture, animation and comics.

The thesis goes through the process of making the different parts of Kawacon’s visual look and explores the graphic designs of other Finnish anime conventions. In addition, the thesis covers briefly the mascot culture that is a big part of the marketing of these kinds of conventions.

The sources for this thesis mainly include books about graphic designing and event management, Internet sources for images and articles about anime conventions and an e-mail send by an expert in all the matters concerning Kawacon itself. An inquiry was also held in Kawacon and the given answers of visitors and employees are included in the thesis as feedback about the visual look.

The purpose of this thesis is to show the process behind creating a visual look for an event and to find similarities between the visual looks of anime conventions in Finland.
