The subject of this thesis was the fall protection of standing seam metal roofs in new construction production. The thesis was made for NCC Construction Ltd. The scope of the thesis was to find out what kind of falling protection is necessary for a roof that is going to be made with standing seam metal. The other scope of the thesis was to find out what kind of anchorage points for personal safety protection it is possible to use for every stage in building roofs after the roof trusses have been installed. The main reason for this thesis was to improve safety in roof working. Falling protections were compared from safety, practicality and cost effectiveness point of views.

Laws, regulations and standards concerning occupational safety and fall protection were studied as well as the means of the main contractor to take care of occupational safety. The knowledge from companies doing roof works was used in the thesis to find out how the falling protection should be realized from the practical point of view. Manufacturers manufacturing guardrails and anchorage points for personal safety protection were interviewed to specify the details of the products. A roof designer was interviewed to find out how durable the roof structures are and what the possibilities for the anchorage points are. The cost data was gathered from Finnish companies hiring construction products.

As a result, NCC Construction Ltd was given a recommendation on what kind of falling equipment should be used in a roof that is going to be standing seam metal roof depending on the structure of the eaves. The other result was an anchorage point solution for standing seam metal roof that can be used during roof works after roof trusses have been installed.
