The aim of this thesis was to develop the quality of the student mentoring in the delivery ward of Hyvinkää Hospital. Our purpose was to compose a guidebook for midwives mentoring students and working in the delivery ward of Hyvinkää Hospital.

The data of this functional thesis was collected by putting together a theoretical frame-work and the results of a qualitative questionnaire. A straw poll was executed by e-mail and sent to three midwives and four midwife students in the delivery ward of Hyvinkää Hospital. The results were analysed with a descriptive method. The guidebook of mentor-ing was assembled on the strength of the data. It was directed at midwives and made in coordination with midwives in delivery ward of Hyvinkää Hospital. The output was formed into a compact and readable guidebook that reminds the reader of the most important issues in mentoring.
