Our thesis consists of two parts: organizing the event Aikamme kamarimusiikkia for contemporary music in February 2010 and writing this thesis. The recordings (both cd and dvd) of the event are attached to the thesis. Aikamme kamarimusiikkia 2010 included four concerts and an improvisation workshop. The event was carried out in cooperation with the Korvat auki association for young Finnish composers who also attended the rehearsals of their own works.

In the written part of our thesis we make a short overview of the role of contemporary music in Finnland´s music universities, illuminate the background of the event Aikamme kamarimusiikkia and deal with the matters of organizing our own event. In that context we explain the main topics of organizing small music and cultural events: financiation, artistical leadership and management. We enlighten how these topics were realized in the event Aikamme kamarimusiikkia 2010. We also tell about the cooperation with the composers as well as our double role as artists and organizers of the event.

We hope that our thesis can be of some help to students organizing musical events after us. Also we would be glad if the compositions performed in Aikamme kamarimusiikkia 2010 found their way into the repertoire of other musicians and festivals.
