The objective of this thesis was to study the accidents that happened in the take-off area of corrugator number 1 at Stora Enso Packaging Lahti Mill between years 1998 - 2012. By studying the root causes of these accidents the purpose was to improve the occupational safety in the take-off area.

In the theoretical part of the thesis the focus is on the definition of accident at work, the chain of events leading to the accidents, categorization of the accidents and on the root causes of accidents. Another focus is on the regulations of the Finnish machine safety and occupational health and safety laws.

In the practical part of the thesis the purpose was to study the means of how to improve the occupational safety in the take-off area, taking into account the work methods and overall conditions at take-off.

As a result of this thesis, clear targets for development were found, on how to im-prove the occupational safety of take-off. The thesis is partly secret.
