Music is a very important, but often an unnoticed part of a film. The meaning and purpose of music is highlighted in the making of a certain atmosphere and storytelling. Music has travelled along the movies since the golden ages of the silent films. It has developed and its significance has grown over the years. A film is never a great viewing experience or pleasure without music.

This thesis reasons and reflects on the meaning of music in films and trailers. The aim is to examine the significance of music in the movie trailers from the audience’s point of view, and thus the focus is in the impact the music has on viewers. The audience will be interviewed and asked how they experience the music in trailers and how they are influ-enced by it.

The researchs methods used in this study are qualitative. The audience’s views of movie trailers and the music in them is researched by conducting group and individual interviews. By analyzing the answers it was found out what is important to the audience in the trailer, and how the music influences the trailer in its entirety.

The research revealed that the most notable things in movie trailer are characters and music. Music has impressive effect for audiences.
