The thesis was implemented in the logistics terminal of Posti Group Plc Jyväskylä in spring 2015. Because Posti Group Plc acquied VR Transpoint (in 2012), it was time to survey and develop work safety inside of an logistics terminal. The aim of the thesis was to enable safe movement around the terminal, even if it was an unknown to the person. General organisation and perception of truck traffic and pedestrian traffic were the main points to focus attention to.

Research data consisted of the author’s own observation, interviews of the employees, video material and Posti Group’s own occupational accident register. To develop work safety, several aspects need to be taken into consideration and the logistics actions were seen in external perspective. Development proposals for pedestrian traffic, truck traffic and working environment as well as an implementation model considering safety management’s point of view were created as a result of the thesis.

The created development proposals were made by using a realistic point of view so they are easy to implement in practice. The most important development proposals were markings for pedestrian traffic, entrance attraction lights and planning the working environment and its maintenance. The development proposals created during the thesis are meant to be tested in practice by Posti Group and also put to use to improve the work safety in the logistics terminal. It is possible to use the results of this thesis in other similar locations.
