The purpose of this thesis was to design a biodegradable cremation urn collection for pets. Making the model piece of one of the urns was also a part of the thesis. The model piece was made using a course called Muotoiluprojekti. The thesis was made without any clients or employers. The goal of the work was to bring new ideas to the world of pet urns.

The main questions of the work were: what a biodegradable cremation urn for pets is and how the chosen materials and techniques fit for an ecologi-cal urn. The information about the pet urns and cremation were searched from books and electronic sources. Some of the information was gotten from interviewing the people from different pet cremation companies and observing their selection of urns. The interviews were made using e-mail.

The answer was that there were no specific demands for the shape, size or materials of the urns. There are many materials that can be used in urns de-pending where the urn is going to be placed in the end. There are many sizes and shapes of urns for all different kind of pets. It was also found out that the owners can bury the urns to the ground with the approval of the landowner or keep them for themselves. The biodegradable materials are slowly becoming popular as the cremation is. The chosen materials and techniques are fitting well for ecological urns.

As the results the answers for the questions were found and with the help of them new collection was made. The outcome fits for the demands of the thesis.
