Background and purpose: Finn´s health, functioning and well-fare have been improved during the last decades. Despite this positive trend in health the number of old people, and therefore need for social- and health care services, rises. The purpose of this study was to find out how the people 65 years or older perceive their health, their wellbeing and the use of social- and heath care services so that municipalities can prioritize and optimize resources in the care for the elderly. Material and method: The subjects were 65 years or older living in a municipality in Nyland area in Finland. The subjects fulfilled a questionnaire research questions formulat-ed by Sosiaalitaito in 2014. From the study 20 questions where picked that answered per-ceived health and wellbeing. Result: The majority (2/3) of the subjects who answered the questionnaire (N=72) per-ceived their physical health as relatively good or good. There were no noticeable differ-ences in health or wellbeing between men and women, nor between subjects younger than 75-year or at least 75 year. For wellbeing, the greatest significance held TV, radio, listen-ing to music, as well as family, friends, outdoors and physical activity. The spouse´s help and support was regarded as important; in addition the children, friends and municipal health and medical services that mainly focus on the somatic care, were significant and functioned well or relatively well. Of the public services best functioned cultural and li-brary services. Conclusion: Municipalities have to take into account the demographic development were the number of elderly people is growing rapidly. Structural changes will be needed to se-cure high quality and cost-effective care, and elderly residents have to have the possibility to contribute to the development of these services.
