ABSTRACT Lulu Sabbiti Challenges faced by migrant women in sports in Finland 40p., 1 appendix. Spring 2020 Diaconia University of Applied Sciences. Bachelor’s Degree Programme in Social Services Bachelor of Social Services The aim of this research-oriented study was to examine the challenges that migrant women face in sports in Finland. It also discussed the factors that might improve their active participation in sports and recreation. The research was conducted using a qualitative research approach, and the data and information were obtained by conducting semi-structured interviews due to their open-ended questions that allowed discussion with the interviewees. I interviewed four participants. The thematic approach of evaluating qualitative data was used for the data analysis to define common themes or similarities in patterns, emotions, perceptions, insights and topics. Research results found that the challenges were based on three themes, and these were structural constraints consisting of lack of transport, insufficient funds and access to the resources available. Socio-structural constraints consisting of social or cultural pressures that hinder their active participation in sport and lastly personal constraints consisting of family responsibilities, language barriers, lack of time to participate, no previous expertise or experience in sport and knowledge of available sporting opportunities or services. Keywords: Sport, Migrant women, Inclusion
This thesis examines the existence and relationship between endangered species and alien species, especially beetles. The point of view is posthumanist, which means it questions the idea of man’s exclusive position and the nature of separateness. The aim has been to turn the direction of the gaze and see the world through the eyes of a beetle, to give subjectivity to the beetle. In the artistic thesis, this theme is examined by making textile sculptures inspired by these species. The goal is not to find exhaustive answers, but to reflect and clarify the theme and locate one’s own identity as an artist. The central question of the thesis is: what if? What if an insect had power? Research and artistic thesis support each other. The research part is the basis that helps to continue and deal with the theme in artistic work.
