The goal of this thesis was to study the possibilites for Lean in turkey manufacturing. It was been done in co-operation with a poultry manufacturer Länsi-kalkkuna Oy from Säkylä, Finland, to improve its operations in poultry industry. Interviews, being a part of the companys operations and familiarizing with Lean literature were used as researching methods on this thesis.

Theory part of this thesis consists of history of lean and tools or methods which are seen important for the research. Current state map of the company was created which helps visualizing the processes and to find defects easier.

After analyzing the current state map a future state map was created. It helped to get an idea of how the organizations value stream should flow opposed to how it flows currently. A development program was also introduced for Länsi-kalkkuna Oy. The program utilizes the 5S method.. An example for using the new program was introduced on this thesis.

The summary revealed that creating constant improvement and implementing Lean culture for the company was the most important thing.
