Different ways of learning and teaching cross-countryskiing

Children should exercise two hour a day, sothat it would improve their healthy. 30 % of pupils exercise only in schooltime. In winter time children exercise less than in summertime. Crosscountryskiing is very good in improving endurance and in that way heart and circulationsystem. Sportclub Keuruun Kisailijat organized pre-schools, special education school and comprehensive schools of Keuruu a cross-countryskiing day. Main purpose of thisproject was to provide teachers and pupils a pleasent outdoor sportday by skiis with full of action. At the same time it was purpose to present different ways of learning and teaching basic skills of cross-countryskiing, balance and control of skies wiht fun. Also sportclub has opportunity to introduce themselves for pupils in hope of getting new participants in the club. There were two parts in the day. Frist one was teaching. Two sportclub's coaches taught pupilsin skiing technique and basic skills in downhills. In second part pupils practised by themselves basic skills different kinds of places, which was marked around skistadium. When pupils were allowed to practise by themselves, they could choose suitable level of ecercises for their own skills. During the three hours we saw smile and lots of skiing. But time was too short because there was lots of doing. For youngest and special pupils should have been smaller area, so that teachers could see pupils all the time. Teacher thought that they got good tipsfor their teaching. They also were surprised how exercises inspired pupils, which were not so interested in skiing before. A day was successful and co-operation will be continued next year.
