Aim of this thesis was to research the experiences of home hospital volunteers working in the terminal care. The research is based on the experiences that emerged from the themed interviews with the volunteers. Interviews were conducted at Pori campus of the Diaconia University of Applied Sciences, one volunteer at a time.

The theoretical part of the thesis describes Home hospital in Pori, volunteer work, palliative care and terminal care. Goal of the research was to gather information about home hospital volunteers’ experiences. In addition to perhaps give a different perspective on volunteering experiences and create an extensive and humane deception to this kind of volunteer work.

Outcome of the interviews pointed out that volunteering at home hospital is very versatile and interesting in terms of working on personal and professional growth. Interviews gave an assumption that volunteers’ work input with people was rewarding and empowering for people in terminal care and as well as for volunteers.
